Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday met Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Jagat Prakash Nadda in New Delhi and sought his guidance on a range of healthcare initiatives aimed at strengthening medical infrastructure and positioning Assam as a leading healthcare and medical tourism destination.
Following the meeting, Sarma shared details of the discussion in a post on X, acknowledging Nadda's contribution to the growth of the BJP in Assam and his role in the party's electoral successes in the state.
"Hon'ble Union Minister Shri J.P. Nadda ji has been instrumental in strengthening BJP in Assam during his tenure as the Rashtriya Adhyaksh and has played a key role in Assam elections," the Chief Minister said.
Sarma said he thanked the Union Minister for his efforts and sought his guidance in implementing several ambitious projects in the health sector.
"Today, as I met him in Delhi, I thanked him for his efforts and sought his guidance to implement the ambitious health sector schemes which we are undertaking in the State - from medical colleges to proton beam therapy to doctor intake etc. - and build Assam as a preferred hub of medical tourism," he said.
The state government is currently pursuing an extensive healthcare expansion programme, which includes setting up new medical colleges, strengthening specialised treatment facilities and increasing the intake capacity of medical students and professionals.
Assam has also been focusing on developing advanced healthcare services to cater not only to residents of the Northeast but also to patients from neighbouring regions.
Medical tourism has emerged as a key component of the state's long-term healthcare strategy.
The meeting comes as the state government continues to push for improved healthcare infrastructure and expanded access to quality medical services across Assam.
