Aizawl: Several civil society groups under the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) have submitted a joint memorandum to Mizoram governor Vijay Kumar Singh, seeking his intervention over the alleged illegal installation of a boundary pillar at Parva-I by the Central Young Lai Association .
The memorandum was submitted following a joint meeting convened on April 18 under the banner of the Central Young Chakma Association.
The meeting was attended by representatives of various political parties operating within the CADC as well as members of several organisations, including the Mizoram Chakma Students' Union, Chakma Mahila Samiti, and associations representing teachers and government employees.
During the meeting, participants unanimously described the erection of the boundary pillar on February 13 as "unauthorised, unwarranted and highly provocative". They warned that such actions could disturb the long-standing peaceful relations between the Lai and Chakma communities in the region.
The organisations further stated that the boundary between the Chakma Autonomous District Council and the Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC) is clearly defined under the Pawi-Lakher Region (Re-Organisation) Order, 1972.
According to this order, the boundary extends from the source of the Sanghatuilo Lui stream to its point of confluence with the Tuichawng Lui.
Based on this demarcation, the organisations maintained that villages such as Parva-I, Parva-II, Parva-III, Bundukbanga, Gavasury and Siminesora fall within the jurisdiction of the CADC.
In their memorandum, the groups urged the Governor to order the immediate removal of the pillar, stating that the structure has caused growing concern among local residents.
They noted that while some villagers have expressed readiness to dismantle the pillar themselves, elected representatives from the Parva and Devasora South constituencies have appealed for restraint until authorities take action.
The organisations cautioned that any delay in resolving the matter could heighten tensions in the area. They, therefore, called on the authorities to intervene promptly to maintain peace and ensure adherence to the rule of law.
The delegation also requested that the Governor initiate a detailed inquiry into the issue and take swift steps to remove the allegedly illegal boundary marker to prevent further escalation.

While making the appeal, the organisations urged all communities to maintain peace, harmony and communal unity until the competent authorities address the matter.
Governor Vijay Kumar Singh heard the concerns of the delegation and assured them that necessary steps would be taken at the earliest.
