Churachandpur: Thousands of residents in Manipur's Churachandpur district were affected on Thursday after an intense spell of rain triggered flash floods and widespread waterlogging across the district headquarters town, officials said.
The downpour started at around 4 pm and continued for over an hour, leading to the overflow of streams and rivulets and flooding several low-lying areas of the town.
Authorities confirmed that no casualties or injuries have been reported in the incident so far.
Several localities, including Lower Mission Veng, Zeliang, D. Phailian, Compound Veng, Lailam Veng and New Lamka, experienced severe inundation as roads and residential neighbourhoods went under water following the sudden rainfall.
Officials said Tuibong was among the hardest-hit areas, with floodwaters reaching knee-deep levels in many parts of the town.
They attributed the extent of flooding partly to the inadequate drainage infrastructure in the area.
The accumulated floodwaters submerged key roads, disrupting vehicular movement and affecting daily activities across the town.
Water also entered numerous houses, while several vehicles parked within residential premises were left partially submerged due to the flooding.
