Shillong: Two persons were arrested with suspected heroin during an anti-infiltration operation conducted by the personnel of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) and AID in Meghalaya's East Khasi Hills district on Monday.
According to the Office of the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, security personnel checked a total of 35 individuals as part of an ongoing drive to curb illegal infiltration and drug trafficking.
Police said several people fled the area after noticing the personnel. The 35 individuals who were verified produced identity and residence documents issued by different states, which will be sent for verification with the respective authorities.
During the operation, ANTF personnel apprehended a husband and wife, identified as Rahim Ali (43) and Jaibanu (35), after recovering 116 vials containing suspected heroin from their possession.

The seized contraband weighed 14.42 grams and was confiscated in the presence of independent witness, police said.
A case no. 242(7)2026 u/s 21(b)/29 NDPS has been registered at Sadar Police Station under Sections 21(b) and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway.
Police said the anti-infiltration and anti-narcotics drives will continue as part of ongoing efforts to prevent illegal infiltration.
