In view of the escalating situation in Manipur, an indefinite curfew has been imposed in Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, and Kakching districts following violence triggered by a bomb attack that killed two children, officials said.

The District Magistrates of Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, and Kakching issued the order imposing curfew in their respective districts from Tuesday.

Orders issued by the district magistrates prohibit the movement of people outside their homes from April 7 until further notice, with exceptions only for essential services, emergency duties, and law enforcement agencies.

The order read, "Movement of any person outside their residences is hereby prohibited with effect from April 7 until further orders," the order said.

"The order shall not apply to government agencies engaged in maintenance of law and order, essential emergency and health services," it added.

Meanwhile, Amid the prevailing volatile situation, the state government imposed an internet suspension across five districts for the next three days, official reports said. According to a Home Department order, the internet shutdown applies to Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur districts.

The curfew and internet restrictions come after the killing of two children in a bomb explosion in Bishnupur district. Reports said the incident took place around 1 am when suspected militants hurled a bomb at a house in Moirang Tronglaobi, resulting in the deaths of a five-year-old boy and a six-month-old girl.

Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh described the incident as a "barbaric act" and stressed that those responsible would be identified and dealt with strictly as per law.
