Imphal: The Manipuri short film "The Nightmare of Bembi", directed and produced by Tenzing Pukhrambam, has won the Best Psychological Drama award at the Indian Panorama International Film Festival 2025-26 held in Mumbai.
The 23-minute film, which marks Tenzing Pukhrambam's directorial debut, presents a poignant depiction of how conflict affects children and families, highlighting the long-lasting trauma that wars leave behind.
The film also secured the Best Short Film award at the Oceaniek Short Films Awards 2026 in Chandigarh.
At the Jakarta Independent Cine Awards 2026, held in Guwahati, the film earned multiple accolades, including Best Debut Director, Best Actress, Best Screenplay, and Best Music.
In addition to these honours, the film has also gained recognition at the Kodaikanal International Film Festival and the Athvikvaruni International Film Festival in Tamil Nadu.
Reacting to the achievement, Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh congratulated the cast and crew, describing the success as a matter of immense pride for the state.
In a Facebook post, the Chief Minister said the film stands as a compelling reflection of the conflict situation and its far-reaching consequences.
"It presents a powerful narrative marked by depth, sensitivity and unforgettable memory. This achievement underscores the creative excellence and storytelling strength of Manipur's film fraternity," he added.
He added that the recognition highlights the creative strength of Manipur's film fraternity and further strengthens the state's rising presence on the global cinematic stage.
The film features Pretty Laishram, Rantan Mayanglambam, Ragini, Valentina Sagapam, Amit Kshetrimayum, Zuleykq Naorem, and Priyalakhshmi Langpoklakpam in key roles. Director Tenzing Pukhrambam had earlier worked as a scriptwriter for the web series "Ehool".
