Shillong: Conrad K. Sangma, president of the National People's Party, is set to campaign in Assam's Boko-Chaygaon constituency on Monday in support of party nominee Ganseng B. Sangma, according to party sources.
Preparations for the rally are in full swing at Santi-Nijora Club, where senior leaders, including MLA Pongseng R. Marak and party vice-president I.
Hemochandra Singh, have been overseeing arrangements ahead of the event.
Party leaders said the campaign is expected to attract workers and supporters from across the region as the NPP seeks to consolidate its footprint in Assam.
They also pointed to what they described as a steady influx of new members, including individuals previously associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Indian National Congress.
Highlighting the party's growth since its formation in 2012, Marak expressed optimism about the NPP's prospects in the state, saying the party is aiming to secure electoral representation from Assam this time.
Dismissing speculation about any alliance with the BJP, NPP leaders maintained that the party continues to function independently and is positioning itself as an alternative political force in the elections.
