Shillong: The Meghalaya government has announced a local holiday in East Khasi Hills district on April 13, 2026, on account of the traditional festival Shad Suk Mynsiem.
An official notification issued by Commissioner and Secretary of the General Administration Department, CVD Diengdoh, stated that all state government offices, revenue and magisterial courts, as well as educational institutions in the district will remain closed for the occasion.
Banks and financial institutions operating within East Khasi Hills will also observe the holiday.
Central government offices, however, will function as usual on the day.
Shad Suk Mynsiem or "Dance of Peaceful Hearts"-radiates the spiritual and cultural essence of the Khasi tribe.
Held each April, this annual spring festival is a celebration of harvest, fertility, and gratitude to the Creator.
