Aizawl: Mizoram Governor Vijay Kumar Singh on Tuesday completed his self-enumeration for the upcoming national census at Lok Bhavan, officials said.
Describing the exercise as a milestone, the governor praised the country's first fully digital census and called it a significant step forward in modernising the enumeration process.
He urged officials involved in the census work across the state to ensure that every resident is counted and that no citizen is left out of the exercise.
Singh also appealed to the public to participate actively by registering themselves in the census and extending full cooperation to enumerators.
He directed officials to reach even the most remote areas of the state, ensure the process remains simple and convenient for citizens, and maintain complete transparency throughout the operation.
Highlighting the unique social structure of the state, the governor stressed the need for close coordination between census officials and local institutions such as village councils, drawing on the Mizo tradition of community cooperation to facilitate smooth implementation of the exercise.
During the self-enumeration process, senior officials from the Directorate of Census Operations briefed the governor on the preparedness, strategies and progress related to the census in the state.
The 2027 Census of India will be conducted in two phases. The first phase-Houselisting and Housing Census-began on April 1, while the second phase, Population Enumeration, is scheduled to take place in February next year.
Officials said the self-enumeration facility will remain open from April 1 to April 15, 2026. This will be followed by the Houselisting and Housing Census across Mizoram from April 16 to May 15.
