Shillong: The district administration of West Garo Hills in Meghalaya has lifted the night curfew imposed across the district after reviewing the prevailing law and order situation and observing that normalcy has largely been restored.
The curfew, which had been in force since March 19, was initially imposed under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, following concerns over the law and order situation.
District Magistrate Vibhor Aggarwal issued an order on Wednesday (April 1) stating that the restrictions have been withdrawn with immediate effect across the entire jurisdiction of the district.
With the withdrawal of the curfew, the movement of the general public, as well as the functioning of shops, commercial establishments and other lawful activities, will resume, subject to compliance with existing laws and regulations.
However, the district administration has urged residents to maintain peace, public order and communal harmony. Authorities warned that any act likely to disturb public tranquillity would invite strict legal action.
