A hardcore cadre of the NSCN-IM surrendered to security forces in Arunachal Pradesh's Changlang on Monday, reports said. The individual has been identified as 30-year-old Sh Jungron Chena.
Reportedly, Chena voluntarily handed over arms and ammunition to the officer-in-charge of Changlang Police Station, in coordination with the 4 Assam Rifles.
Changlang District Police have been consistently working to counsel and motivate local youth involved in insurgent activities to return to the mainstream. The surrender of Chena is seen as a positive outcome of these sustained efforts, offering him an opportunity to lead a dignified life with his family.
A police official said the surrender was part of ongoing efforts to reintegrate local youth who have been misled into insurgency, enabling them to return to their families and lead dignified lives.

"In an effort to encourage the return of our misguided local youth to the mainstream and help them lead a dignified life with their families, the Changlang district police have been continuously trying to bring back misguided youth to the mainstream," said a police official.
The surrender of Chena is a significant setback for NSCN-IM, which remains active in the TLC region of eastern Arunachal Pradesh. This surrender follows a series of similar defections in recent months, as security forces continue their drive to bring insurgents back into mainstream society.
