Imphal: Efforts are underway to transform Tamenglong district into a major hub for honey production, with more than 100 farmers undergoing training under the PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana.
The initiative focuses on introducing scientific beekeeping practices to improve productivity and sustainability.
In the first phase, selected farmers are being trained in modern techniques, including bee breeding and hive management, with the aim of enhancing both yield and quality of honey.
The programme is being implemented by the district administration in collaboration with Buzzworthy Venture Pvt. Ltd.
Officials are also conducting regular field visits to monitor progress and provide on-ground support.
To facilitate the expansion, around 500 beekeeping boxes have already been supplied, and each of the participating farmers will receive equipment worth Rs. 8,000.
Authorities have set an initial production target of 1,000 litres of honey per month under the scheme.
Tamenglong, which has been identified as an aspirational agricultural district, is the only district from Manipur selected under the nationwide programme that aims to strengthen agriculture and allied sectors in 100 districts across the country.
The scheme, approved by the Union Cabinet in 2025, is designed to address challenges such as low productivity, limited cropping intensity and inadequate access to credit, while promoting income generation through activities like beekeeping.
