The Shad Sukkara festival was marked with traditional zeal at Biar Aitnar Seiñ Raij Tuber in Tuber Kmaishnong village, East Jaintia Hills, drawing large participation from cultural groups and community members.
The celebration was graced by local MLA Kyrmen Shylla as the chief guest, while Lasky Rymbai attended as the guest of honour, alongside several dignitaries and community leaders.
More than 20 Seiñ Raij groups took part in the festivities, presenting an array of traditional songs, dances and folk performances.
Speaking on the occasion, Shylla underscored the cultural importance of the festival as a tribute to nature and appealed for sustained support to the farming community.
He also urged people to remain united ahead of a proposed rally on April 7 concerning restrictions on coal mining.
Rymbai, in his address, emphasised the need to safeguard indigenous traditions and cultural identity.
Community elders and leaders highlighted the role of rituals in promoting harmony, peace and collective unity as the agricultural season begins.
