Shillong: The 115th edition of Shad Suk Mynsiem, a festival deeply embedded in Khasi culture and tradition, concluded on Monday with vibrant dance performances at Weiking Ground in Jaiaw, Shillong, bringing the three-day celebration to a close.

Observed annually in April, Shad Suk Mynsiem-often referred to as the "Dance of Peaceful Hearts"-marks the onset of a new agricultural cycle.

It is a time when the Khasi community expresses gratitude to the Almighty for past blessings while looking ahead with hope for the coming season.

Happy Shad Suk Mynsiem!

May gratitude fill our hearts as we thank the Almighty for a good harvest and blessings through the year. Extend my greetings to members of the Seng Khasi and the people of #Meghalaya on this joyous occasion. May this vibrant festival bring rich… pic.twitter.com/VSWT2EffUm

The festivities began on Saturday with the ceremonial 'Ngi Nohkjat', setting the tone for the cultural celebrations that followed.

A defining feature of the festival is its symbolic dance, where men and women perform in a formation that reflects the Khasi matrilineal system.

Women occupy the central space, symbolising their role as the custodians of lineage and family, while men encircle them, signifying protection.

An elder of the Seng Khasi highlighted that the festival serves as a thanksgiving for blessings such as a good harvest, health, peace and prosperity.

He also noted that although the tradition dates back centuries, it was formally organised and first presented at Weiking Ground by Seng Khasi in 1911.

Meanwhile, Conrad K Sangma extended his greetings on the occasion through social media, wishing people good health, peace and prosperity while urging them to embrace gratitude for the year's blessings.
