Three insurgent cadres arrested for alleged extortion activities in Manipur

Imphal: Security forces carried out a series of operations across the state on June 1, leading to the arrest of three alleged militant cadres belonging to proscribed outfits and two individuals for possession of suspected narcotics.

In one operation, security forces arrested two active cadres of the banned Revolutionary People's Front/People's Liberation Army (RPF/PLA) from separate locations in Imphal East district.

The arrested individuals were identified as Maibam Arun Singh alias Uru (49) of Khurai Ningthoubung Leikai, who was apprehended near a community hall at Top Awang Leikai under Porompat Police Station, and Thangjam Surankumar Singh alias Achouba alias Rajesh (30) of Pourabi Awang Leikai, who was arrested from Top Makha Leikai, also under Porompat Police Station.

The militants were arrested on charges of extortion in Manipur, police said.

In a separate operation, Manipur Police arrested an alleged active cadre of the proscribed Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL).

The accused, identified as Bramacharimayum Sana Sharma alias Ibungo alias Manisana (38), a resident of Mayang Imphal Bazar, was apprehended from the office complex of the Commandant, District Office (CDO), Imphal West at Minuthong.

Meanwhile, security forces also arrested two persons near CMC Hospital at Koirengei in connection with a narcotics case.

The arrested individuals were identified as Purna Bahadur Karke (40) of Kanglatongbi Hatik Khuwa, who was serving as a Village Defence Force (VDF) personnel in Kangpokpi district, and Lovingson (37) of Kanglatongbi Santipur.

During the operation, security personnel recovered and seized 1.425 kg of suspected brown sugar along with a Honda Activa scooter. Further investigation into the case is underway.
