Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has congratulated the Tipra Motha Party for its sweeping victory in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council elections, where the party led by Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma secured 24 out of the 28 seats.

The Bharatiya Janata Party managed to win the remaining four seats, while both the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Congress failed to win any seat for the second consecutive time.

In a message shared on Facebook, Saha thanked BJP workers for their commitment during the polls.

He praised the party's karyakartas for their dedication and efforts in campaigning during the council elections. The chief minister also congratulated the victorious candidates and extended his good wishes to the Tipra Motha Party for its strong performance.

Acknowledging the party's limited success in the council polls, Saha said the party would carefully review the results to understand where it fell short and take corrective measures. He also urged people to maintain peace, emphasising that political competition should not disturb harmony in the state.

Although the BJP and the Tipra Motha Party are partners in the state government, they contested the elections separately. The council administers nearly 70 per cent of Tripura's geographical area and represents around 15 lakh people.

Saha said the BJP respects the people's mandate and views the result as an opportunity to learn and improve.

He thanked party workers for tirelessly spreading the BJP's message and reaffirmed the party's commitment to development, unity and public welfare, adding that it would continue working with renewed determination.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition and CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury said he had expected a strong wave in favour of the regional party but had not anticipated such a decisive margin.

Senior Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman attributed the Tipra Motha Party's landslide win partly to internal factionalism within the BJP.
