AASU observes 'black day', burns copies of CAA in different district

The All Assam Students' Union observed Sunday as a 'black day' and staged different protest programmes in different districts of Assam demanding the repeal of the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

The students demanded the implementation of the sixth clause of the Assam Accord and also protested against the visit of union home minister Amit Shah to the state.

Amit Shah on Sunday participated in a mega rally at Kokrajhar to commemorate the completion of one year of the signing of the historic 3rd Bodo Accord.

The Union minister also addressed a BJP rally in Nalbari on the occasion.

The Darrang district AASU unit in association with its Deomornoi Anchalik unit staged a protest demonstration near the Deomornoi College by hoisting a black flag and burning a copy of CAA.

AASU activities carrying black flags in their hands also took out a protest rally from its office in Boarding Road in Sivasagar in protest against CAA.

They shouted slogans against the ruling BJP governments in the state and the Centre.

Similar protests were also organized in Biswanath Chariali where AASU members burnt a copy of CAA demanding that the Union and state governments initiate steps to solve the long-standing problem of illegal infiltration of Bangladeshi nationals to the state.

They also demanded the implementation of clause six of the Assam Accord.
