Guwahati: The Executive Council of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) has been expanded from 14 to 17 members following approval from the Governor of Assam.

The decision was taken after a request from BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary, according to an official communication issued by the Governor's Secretariat on March 3.

Three Members of Councils (MCLAs) - Maheswar Basumatary from the Goreswar ST constituency, Lakhi Das from the Nagrijuli non-ST constituency and government-nominated member Karmeshwar Roy, have been inducted as Executive Members, taking the council's strength to 17.

The Governor has also approved the administration of the Oath of Office and secrecy to the three new Executive Members on March 6 or 7 at Kokrajhar.

Mukesh Ch. Sahu, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary to the government of Assam and in charge of Principal Secretary to BTC, has been authorised to administer the oath.

The communication, issued by Bidit Das, Additional Secretary to the government of Assam, has been forwarded to the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, the Chief Minister's Office and the Bodoland Welfare Department for necessary action.

The expansion of the Executive Council is being seen as a significant administrative move by the Hagrama Mohilary-led BTC government as it strengthens its executive structure ahead of upcoming governance initiatives in the Bodoland Territorial Region.
