Guwahati: The Bodoland People's Front (BPF), an ally of the NDA, is set to secure a majority of the 15 Assembly constituencies in Assam's Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), leading in 10 seats according to Election Commission data.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the principal party in the ruling alliance aiming for a third consecutive term in the state, is ahead in three constituencies.
The United People's Party Liberal (UPPL), which previously governed the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) for one five-year term before being defeated by the BPF in 2025, is currently leading in just one seat. The Indian National Congress is also ahead in one constituency in the region.
The BTC, an autonomous administrative body under the Sixth Schedule, governs districts including Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, Udalguri, and Tamulpur. In the elections, the BPF contested 11 of the 15 seats, leaving the rest to the BJP, while the UPPL fielded candidates in all constituencies.
Within the opposition, Congress contested most seats, allocating one each to Raijor Dal and CPI(M).
Among the candidates, BJP leader Biswajit Daimary is leading by over 14,000 votes against UPPL chief Pramod Boro in Tamulpur. Daimary previously represented Panery, a constituency dissolved during the 2023 delimitation. Boro, now a Rajya Sabha MP, is also a member of the BTC.
BPF's Charan Boro is significantly ahead in Mazbat, while Sewli Mohilary is leading in Kokrajhar. The BPF is also ahead in several other constituencies, including Gossaigaon, Dotma, Baokhungri, Sidli-Chirang, Manas, Baksa, Bhergaon, and Udalguri.
From the BJP, candidates like Victor Kumar Das in Goreswar and Bikan Chandra Deka in Tangla are in strong positions. UPPL's Kamal Sing Narzary leads narrowly in Bijni, while Congress candidate Md Ashraful Islam Sheikh is ahead in Parbatjhora.
Ahead of the elections, the BJP ended its alliance with the UPPL and brought the BPF back into the NDA following the latter's strong performance in the BTC polls. Led by Hagrama Mohilary, the BPF has been a dominant political force in the BTC since 2005, except for a brief period in 2020.
Historically, the party has aligned with ruling governments in Assam, regardless of whether Congress or BJP was in power.
