Assam Elections 2026: Tinsukia administration finalises arrangements for May 4 vote counting

Tinsukia: The Tinsukia district administration has completed all arrangements for the smooth conduct of vote counting for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, scheduled to begin at 8:00 AM on May 4.

District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner Sumit Sattawan announced this at a press briefing on Friday, stating that comprehensive logistical and security measures have been put in place to ensure a transparent and orderly process.

According to officials, the Election Commission of India has appointed six counting observers for the Tinsukia election district.

IAS officer Abhinav Trikha will oversee counting for the 86 No. Tinsukia constituency, while Limawabang Jamir has been assigned to 85 No. Makum. Om Prakash Saharan will monitor 82 No. Doomdooma, A.G. Chinna Krishna will supervise 84 No. Digboi, Mitali Namchum will oversee 83 No. Margherita, and I. Kishore has been designated for 81 No. Sadiya.

The administration has designated two counting centres. Counting for 81 No. Sadiya and 83 No. Margherita will take place at Janata College, while 82 No. Doomdooma, 84 No. Digboi, 85 No. Makum, and 86 No. Tinsukia will be counted at the SAI Sarbananda Sonowal Stadium.

Elaborate table arrangements have been made at both venues. At Janata College, 14 tables have been set up for Sadiya along with four tables for postal ballots, while Margherita will have 11 tables and three tables for postal ballots.

At the stadium, 10 tables each have been arranged for Doomdooma and Digboi, along with two tables each for postal ballots. Makum and Tinsukia constituencies will have 11 tables each, along with two tables for postal ballots each.

To ensure efficiency, all personnel involved in the counting process, including micro-observers, counting supervisors, and assistants, have undergone training.

A total of around 600 officials have been deployed, supported by 79 micro-observers, 67 counting supervisors, and 67 counting assistants.

Officials have been instructed to report by 5:30 AM on counting day, while counting staff must arrive by 6:00 AM.

Counting agents, candidates, and representatives of political parties have been directed to be present by 7:00 AM.

The administration has emphasized that stringent security arrangements are in place to prevent any untoward incidents during the counting process.

Superintendent of Police Mayank Kumar Jha and Election Officer Mayurakshi Dutta were also present at the press conference.
