North Lakhimpur: In another incident raising concerns over the safety of migrant workers from Assam outside the state, a 30-year-old man from Lakhimpur district was found dead in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, on May 3.
The deceased has been identified as Dhruba Jyoti Baruah, a resident of Bohupathar village under Narayanpur Police Station in Lakhimpur district. He was reportedly found lying on a railway track at Visakhapatnam (VSKP) railway station by personnel of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) on Sunday.
According to family members, Baruah had boarded a train for home at around 11:45 pm on Friday. His phone was found switched off the following day.
When relatives tried contacting him again on Sunday, the call was answered by an RPF personnel, who informed them about his death.
Baruah had been working at an ice-making factory in Bengaluru for the past three years and was the sole breadwinner of his family. He is survived by his wife and a four-year-old child.
The incident comes barely 36 hours after another migrant worker from Lakhimpur district, Sanjoy Bhowmik (32) of Phulbari in the Nowboicha area, was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his workplace in Bengaluru on May Day.
The back-to-back incidents have brought attention to the safety and security of migrant workers from Assam working in different parts of the country, particularly during transit.
