Bajali: In preparation for the upcoming Assam Legislative Assembly Elections 2026, the District Election Officer of Bajali has constituted a District-Level Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) to ensure the smooth and transparent conduct of the electoral process.
The order, issued recently, follows the guidelines laid down by the Election Commission of India for regulating political advertisements and monitoring media activities during elections.
According to the official notification, the committee will be headed by District Election Officer Partha Pratim Majumdar, IAS.
The panel includes Assistant Commissioner Samujjal Jyoti Gogoi, who will serve as ARO for the 26-Bajali constituency, along with Assistant Commissioner Asfaque Laskar. DIPRO Barpeta, Ananya Gogoi, has been appointed as the Member Secretary, while District Manager of DITEC Bajali, Ismail Hussain, will serve as the Social Media Expert. Independent journalist Sasangka Talukdar has also been included as a member.
The committee has been entrusted with the responsibility of pre-certifying political advertisements across various media platforms, including print, electronic, and social media, to ensure compliance with election norms.
It will also monitor instances of paid news and examine complaints related to media coverage. The MCMC will keep a close watch on political advertisements to ensure that no content is broadcast or published without prior approval, while also tracking indirect campaigning and promotional activities carried out on behalf of candidates.
Officials stated that the committee will play a crucial role in maintaining transparency by monitoring campaign-related expenditure and recommending its inclusion in candidates' election accounts. It will also ensure adherence to relevant legal provisions, including the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
The committee is required to submit daily reports to the concerned authorities, including the Accounting Team and Expenditure Observers.
The order has come into immediate effect, marking a key administrative step in strengthening election oversight mechanisms in Bajali ahead of the 2026 polls.
