Assembly Election Result 2026: BJP sweeps Upper Assam; Suren Phukan retains Digboi

Digboi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) registered strong victories across major constituencies in Upper Assam, strengthening its position in the region.

Digboi MLA Suren Phukan secured a significant win in the constituency.

During the ticket distribution phase, Phukan faced opposition from some sections within the party, which led to internal differences over his candidature.

He later worked to address the disagreements and maintain unity within the party before the elections. After securing the party ticket, he went on to win the seat with a clear margin.

Phukan received 65,690 votes. His nearest rival, Dulal Moran, secured 24,617 votes, while Bharat Nayak got 19,638 votes. NOTA received 2,697 votes in Digboi.

In his reaction, Phukan thanked party workers, supporters, and senior leaders for their support. He also thanked Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, stating that his leadership contributed to the party's performance. He said the result reflects the support of the people of Digboi.

In the Tinsukia (86 No. Constituency), BJP candidate Pulak Gohain won with 85,184 votes. Congress candidate David Phukan received 36,687 votes. NOTA recorded 2,407 votes.

In Makum, Sanjay Kisan won with 74,694 votes, defeating Congress candidate Shivnath Chetia, who received 46,418 votes. NOTA stood at 3,047 votes.

In Sadiya, Bolin Chetia secured 97,087 votes, while AJP candidate Jagadish Bhuyan received 55,338 votes. NOTA got 2,645 votes.

In Margherita, Bhaskar Sharma won with 86,349 votes. NOTA in the constituency was 3,290 votes.

Across constituencies, NOTA votes ranged between 2,400 and 3,300.

Overall, the BJP secured a strong performance across Upper Assam constituencies, with clear victories in multiple seats, including Digboi, Tinsukia, Makum, Sadiya, and Margherita.
