Manipur: CFJM seeks judicial inquiry into CRPF firing deaths in Bishnupur

Manipur: CFJM seeks judicial inquiry into CRPF firing deaths in Bishnupur

NORTHEAST NOW 1 month ago

Imphal: The Citizens for Justice, Manipur (CFJM) has urged the state government to institute a judicial inquiry into the deaths of three persons allegedly killed by CRPF personnel on April 7, hours after two children were killed in a bomb attack.

Chairman of CFJM and former Chairman of the Manipur State Human Rights Commission, Khaidem Mani, told the media that the state government must upload the First Information Report (FIR), noting that the status of FIR registration in this case remains unknown.

Based on reports regarding the April 7, 2026 incident in Tronglaobi, Bishnupur district, the three persons allegedly killed by CRPF personnel during a protest have been identified as Huidrom Michael alias Henary (40), son of Mohon of Tera Lukram Leirak in Imphal West district.

The second victim has been identified as Laishram Jiten (41), son of L. Udoichand of Torbung Waikhurok in Bishnupur district.

The third victim, Wahengbam Boby (29), son of late Ibochouba of Kumbi Terakhong Ward No. 7, initially sustained bullet injuries and later died at the RIMS ICU.

These individuals were allegedly killed during a protest after a mob stormed a CRPF camp in the Gelmol area of Tronglaobi to protest against a separate bomb attack that killed two children, Oinam Tomthin (5) and Oinam Yaisana (5 months).

While an FIR has been filed at Moirang police station regarding the death of the two children, no FIR appears to have been filed over the deaths of the three protesters in the CRPF firing, which also left over 30 civilians injured.

Khaidem Mani urged the Government of India to crack down on terror, adding that a prolonged violent conflict may force people to review the Manipur Merger Agreement of 1949.
