Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has called upon farmers in the state to adopt double and triple cropping systems to enhance agricultural output and improve income levels, noting that agriculture continues to be a key pillar of Manipur's economy.

He made the appeal while attending the State Krishi Mela 2026 held at the City Convention Centre in Imphal on June 6, which was themed "Balanced Fertilisation for Healthy Crops and Healthy Soils."

Highlighting the government's focus on agricultural development, the Chief Minister said around 400 hectares of land are being earmarked for organic farming. He also assured that the distribution of urea fertiliser would be closely monitored to ensure timely availability, adding that he would personally intervene in case of any irregularities.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister released the publication Farmers' Success Stories, which documents the achievements of 53 farmers from across the state. He also distributed Natural Farming Scope Certificates and introduced a range of natural farming products.

Singh further launched the Manipur Seed and Organic Certification Agency (MASOCA), describing it as a significant step towards strengthening the production and certification of quality seeds in the state. In addition, a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was signed between the Agriculture Department and the Central Agricultural University to boost natural farming certification and promote sustainable agricultural practices.
