Imphal: Security forces arrested four cadres of various underground groups during an operation at a hideout in Yangoubung village, under Moreh police station in Manipur's Tengnoupal district, which shares a border with Myanmar, officials reported on Saturday.
The arrested individuals included Keisham Sumanta Meitei, 25, of Toubungkhok Awang Leikai, Imphal West, associated with the outlawed People's Liberation Army (PLA), and Angom Somorjit Singh, also known as Nongsaba, 32, of Kakching Khunou Awang Kshetri Leikai, Kakching district, linked with the proscribed National Revolutionary Front of Manipur (NRFM).
Yumnam Naoba Singh, alias Shinsangamba, 26, of Gwaltabi Mamang Leikai, Imphal East district, and Khundrakpam Shyamson Meitei, also known as Manganleiba, 25, of Ukhongshang Mamang Leikai, Thoubal district, were both associated with the Kangleipak Communist Party - Meeyamgi Phingang Lanmee (KCP-MFL).
The arrestees were later handed over to the concerned police stations for further legal proceedings.
Meanwhile, the Kshetrileikai Apunba Meira Paibi and Kshetri Leikai Semgat Sagat Lup have expressed strong resentment over the arrest of Ningthoujam Hemanta Singh, 28, of Thoubal Kshetri Leikai.
He was taken into custody by security forces on March 12 from Thoubal Wangmataba on charges of being associated with the proscribed KCP (Taibanganba).
In a joint statement, the two organizations claimed that Hemanta is an innocent individual who earns his livelihood through daily wage work and strongly condemned the allegations against him.
They asserted that he has no links with any unlawful organization and described the charges as unacceptable to local residents.
The groups also highlighted that Hemanta has been actively involved in community activities, particularly in initiatives aimed at combating drug abuse and supporting local welfare programs.
