Imphal: A Manipur Police head constable was killed during an anti-drug operation on Wednesday night, while a suspected drug dealer was later arrested with banned pharmaceutical capsules during separate enforcement actions in Manipur's Thoubal district, officials said on Thursday.

According to police, Head Constable Khoirom Suresh, attached to the Thoubal district commando unit, died after being stabbed while attempting to apprehend a suspected drug peddler at Moijing Meena Bazar Thongkhong under Thoubal Police Station limits around 8 pm.

He sustained critical injuries during the operation and was immediately shifted to Thoubal District Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

In a related enforcement drive, police conducted frisking and vehicle checks at Lilong Dam near Nungei under Lilong Police Station, leading to the arrest of MM Warish (33), a resident of Lilong Nungei.

Officials said 18 strips of suspected Serratiopeptidase (SP) capsules weighing around 115 grams were recovered from his possession, along with a two-wheeler used in the movement.

Cases have been registered in both incidents, and further investigation is underway.
