Imphal: Hundreds of Naga women took out a rally in and around New Kaiphundai village in Tousem subdivision, under Tousem Police Station in Manipur's Tamenglong district, along NH-37 on Friday, calling for the early restoration of elusive peace in the area.
Several Naga women's bodies, including Rongmei Naga Luh Phuam Manipur - Goinanglong Luangrian (RNLPM-GL), Rongmei Naga Council - Manipur - Goinanglong Luangrian (RNCM-GL), and Rongmei Naga Youth Organization Manipur - Goinanglong Luangrian, organized the rally.
Participants held festoons and placards reading "We Want Peace," "Vacate the Village," "Peace Not War," "Gunfire is Not a Solution for Peace," "We Need Change," among others.
The rally was held to protest the gunfire between two Naga underground groups, the Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) and the National Socialist Council of Nagalim - Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM), at a location in New Kaiphundai village on March 20, 2026.
A woman leader of the organizing committee, speaking on the sidelines of the rally, said villagers are aggrieved by the frequent gunfights between the two Naga groups in their pursuit of demands and solutions, which have caused panic among residents.
She further stated that the fate of the young will be in peril when people live in fear and grief. She added, "Let the children learn in peace. Let the farmers and daily wagers earn their livelihood without any disturbance."
In the aftermath of the violence between the two groups, the All Zeliangrong Students Union - Assam, Manipur, and Nagaland (AZSU-AMN) appealed to the ZUF and NSCN-IM to shun violence and resolve differences through dialogue for the early restoration of peace in this sensitive border state.
