Imphal: Oil and fuel prices across Manipur were increased by Rs 3 per litre for both petrol and diesel, effective from Friday.

This marks the first retail hike in over four years, triggered by surging global crude prices and tensions in West Asia.

The war in West Asia has again sent international oil prices soaring by over 50 per cent. Petrol prices were hiked to Rs 97.77 per litre from Rs 94.77 per litre in the national capital. Diesel now costs Rs 90.67 per litre, compared to Rs 89.67 per litre previously.

In Manipur, a litre of petrol will now cost Rs 102.3, up from the earlier Rs 99.15, while diesel will cost Rs 88.15 per litre, up from Rs 85.23 earlier.

In Imphal and neighbouring cities like Churachandpur and Thoubal, the updated rates stand as follows: Petrol: Rs 102.28 per litre; Diesel: Rs 88.15 per litre.

These prices are based on dynamic fuel pricing and include local state taxes in Manipur, meaning rates can fluctuate slightly depending on the district.

Additionally, oil and petroleum products are being transported into Manipur from outside the state normally. However, the import of oil into the state came to a grinding halt over the past three days due to a bandh called by various tribal organisations protesting the killing of four tribal people on May 13 in Noney and Kangpokpi districts.

Meanwhile, police reported that security forces continue to conduct search operations and area domination exercises in fringe and vulnerable areas across districts.

A total of 113 nakas/checkpoints were installed in different districts of Manipur, both in the hills and the valley.
