Imphal: Following swift action directed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh announced that his government will submit a detailed proposal to raise a Mahila (all-women) India Reserve Battalion (IRB) to strengthen the state's security forces.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister wrote,
"I express my sincere gratitude to the Hon'ble Home Minister for his in-principle approval to raise a Mahila IRB Battalion, aimed at enhancing our capacity to maintain law and order and ensure internal security. A detailed proposal will be submitted at the earliest."
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday agreed to the raising of one Mahila India Reserve Battalion (IRB) for Manipur, asking Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh to submit the proposal immediately.
According to a statement from the Manipur CM's Secretariat, the Union Minister approved the strengthening of regional forces during a meeting with Khemchand in the national capital on Tuesday.
The statement added that Amit Shah reviewed the security scenario in Manipur and directed the Chief Minister to accelerate the peace process and consolidate harmony among different communities.
Notably, on February 23, 2026, Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh called on Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi to urge the raising of a Territorial Army (TA) battalion for the state.
Rajnath Singh assured full support from the Defence Ministry. The Chief Minister was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho during the meeting.
