Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma discusses Green Meghalaya Movement to combat climate change

Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma on Wednesday discussed the guidelines for building institutions under the government's Green Meghalaya Movement.

The Meghalaya government has undertaken the Green Meghalaya Movement project to reverse climate change in the state in a planned manner and has targeted to put in place a system by June 5 this year.

The project will also ensure active community participation to achieve its goals.

"Guidelines for building institutions and community leadership for action on #ClimateChange under the #GreenMeghalayaMovement were deliberated on today," Conrad Sangma tweeted on Wednesday.

Sangma had earlier said that the state government will provide the necessary training to local youths so that they too can contribute towards conserving the fast degrading environment.

The chief minister had also stressed on an adaptation policy to tackle the issue of climate change.

The Meghalaya government also emphasized mitigation activities like reducing greenhouse gas emissions and aforestation to tackle the problem.
