Gurugram: In a shocking crime of betrayal and violence, Haryana's Gurugram police have arrested a 25-year-old man and his girlfriend for allegedly murdering his wife and fleeing to Nepal to evade the law.
The accused, identified as Ankit of Manesar and Rajni Devi (38) of Jhajjar, were taken into custody after returning to India on June 30, officials said on Sunday.
The case began on May 22 when a woman lodged a complaint at Manesar Police Station, reporting her 22-year-old daughter missing. The young woman had married Ankit only in February 2026. Hours later, her body was discovered in a room in Manesar, shot dead.
Investigations revealed that Ankit, who runs a tobacco shop, and Rajni, a beauty parlour worker, had been in a relationship for nearly three years. Police said Ankit lured his wife to Rajni's rented accommodation on May 21, where he shot her with a firearm procured from Uttar Pradesh two months earlier.
After the murder, the duo fled to Haridwar and then crossed into Nepal. Their return to India led to their arrest following a police encounter in which Ankit sustained a leg injury. Both have been remanded to five days' police custody for interrogation and recovery of evidence.
