Berhampur: In a late-night operation, authorities rescued four minors from suspected traffickers at Chhatrapur Railway Station in Ganjam district, preventing their alleged transport to Surat, Gujarat.
Acting on a specific intelligence input, a joint team comprising the Labour Department, District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Railway Protection Force (RPF), and local police intercepted two suspects and seized the vehicle used in the attempted trafficking.
Officials said the children, hailing from Chhatrapur and Purushottampur areas, were being moved under suspicious circumstances, raising fears of a larger trafficking racket.
The minors have been placed under protection and will be produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) for counselling, care, and rehabilitation.
Police have detained the two suspects and launched a detailed investigation to uncover the motive and possible links to organised child trafficking networks. Authorities stressed that further inquiries are underway to ensure accountability and dismantle any wider nexus.
