Bhubaneswar: Odisha's academic calendar is set to heat up as the Common PG Entrance Test (CPET) 2026 kicks off on May 5, opening the gateway to postgraduate studies across the state.

The Higher Education Department announced on Wednesday that the exam will run until May 18, covering admissions to universities and colleges for the 2026-27 session.

The numbers underline the demand: 58,708 candidates have applied for 31,915 PG seats, reflecting the growing appetite for advanced education. Applications were accepted through the SAMS portal between February 27 and March 22, with candidate data scheduled to be handed over to the State Selection Board (SSB) on March 26.

Admit cards will be available for download from April 30 on the official SSB website. Authorities have urged students to verify details carefully before appearing. Selection will be based strictly on CPET scores, followed by counselling and merit-based seat allocation.

The department has set July 10 as the target date for commencement of PG classes, ensuring a streamlined transition from exams to classrooms.
