Baripada: A troubling case of alleged medical negligence has surfaced at Udala Medical in the Mayurbhanj district, where a patient claims he was handed expired drugs and a wrong prescription.
Lawrence Khandei, a resident of Khaladi village under Udala police station limits, visited the health facility after sustaining cuts on his body. Following consultation, he was prescribed medication and sent home.
Later that evening, while preparing to use the medicine, Khandei discovered that one of the drugs had already expired. More alarmingly, he alleged that instead of the recommended Clotrimazole lotion for his ringworm infection, he was given an ear drop with a similar composition.
The incident has sparked serious concerns over patient safety and accountability in local healthcare services. Responding to the allegations, the Sub-Divisional Medical Officer (SDMO) clarified that the expired medicine was not part of the official prescription and denied it was dispensed by Udala Medical.
Khandei and his family, however, remain unconvinced and have demanded a thorough investigation to ensure such lapses are not repeated.
