A first-year MBBS student has been detained after a handwritten document containing instructions for making an explosive was recovered from Ayodhya's Rajarshi Dashrath Autonomous State Medical College, triggering a police investigation and a security review on the campus.
The document was found in the college’s X-ray room on Saturday by the department in charge, who immediately alerted the police. Initial findings suggest it was prepared by Sarfaraz, a first-year student from Uttar Pradesh’s Balrampur, who was on duty in the X-ray room on Friday night.
Sarfaraz has been taken into custody for questioning, while two others who were on duty with him are also being interrogated.
The handwritten note reportedly lists ingredients associated with making an explosive, including gauge wire, ammonium carbonate, red phosphorus, red sulphide and nitric acid.
Chief Medical Superintendent Dr Arvind Singh said police were informed as soon as the document was discovered. “The investigation is underway, and further action will be taken based on its findings,” he said.
Police have not established any criminal intent and said all possible angles are being examined. The college administration has also stepped up vigilance and ordered a review of campus security. The incident comes months after the 2025 Red Fort blast case, in which investigators alleged a Jaish-e-Mohammed terror module was involved.
