Gaya: Forget crime thrillers, Bihar has scripted its own courtroom drama starring a buffalo. Yes, you read that right. A senior police official has ordered a DNA test on a buffalo to settle a tug-of-war between two men, each insisting the bovine is theirs, reported The Hindu.
According to the report, Inspector General of Police (Magadh range) Vikas Vaibhav instructed Gaya (Rural) SP Divyanjali Jaiswal to resolve the bizarre ownership battle through science. "What other option is left?" he quipped, as the buffalo became the unlikely subject of forensic investigation.
The saga began when Suraj Yadav claimed his buffalo was stolen from Sirh village, only to find it tied at Prakash Manjhi's house in neighbouring Nauranga. Yadav retrieved the animal, sparking Manjhi's fury and a complaint at Atri police station. The buffalo was even kept at the police station for two days, guarded like a VIP, before being handed back to Yadav amid protests.
Manjhi then filed a case under the SC/ST Act, dragging politics into the pasture. Local RJD leader Ajay Kumar Yadav alias Ranjit Yadav demanded an impartial probe, alleging police bias.
Now, with DNA testing on the cards, Bihar's buffalo may soon set a precedent in forensic livestock justice.
