New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) found itself at the centre of an unusual online buzz after students claimed that a QR code printed on the Class 12 Mathematics question paper, held on March 9, redirected them to a YouTube video instead of authentication details.
According to several students, scanning the code led to British singer Rick Astley's popular song ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ on YouTube, a prank widely known on the internet as "rickrolling". Screenshots and reactions soon began circulating on social media, leaving many students amused and confused.
Responding to the claims, CBSE acknowledged the issue but clarified that the question papers were genuine and the integrity of the examination process remained intact. The board said concerns raised by students and parents had been taken seriously.

The incident triggered humorous reactions online. One user wrote it was the "best rickroll" given the number of people who fell for it, while another joked that "2026 is already off to a great start".
