New Delhi: A startling breach at the Delhi Legislative Assembly on Monday has raised serious concerns over security preparedness after a car rammed through a barricade and briefly entered the high-security premises.
Officials said a Tata Sierra with a Uttar Pradesh registration broke through an iron gate at Gate No. 2 around 2 pm, triggering panic among staff and security personnel. The driver stepped out inside the complex, placed a bouquet near the porch outside Speaker Vijender Gupta's office and fled within minutes.
The vehicle remained inside the compound for less than five minutes before exiting through the same gate. Authorities later confirmed that no suspicious material was found in the bouquet.
Police have since traced and seized the vehicle, arresting the accused, identified as Sarabjeet Singh, from the Roop Nagar area. Two others have also been detained, with their roles under investigation.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud crash as the gate was breached, followed by the car briefly moving inside before reversing and speeding away. The incident has sparked questions over how the vehicle managed to enter and exit a VIP gate guarded by CRPF personnel without interception.
Security agencies are now reviewing access protocols, questioning staff on duty and planning stricter monitoring at entry points.
