New Delhi: In a strong rebuke to obscenity in popular music, the Delhi High Court on Thursday ordered the immediate removal of the controversial track "C…T Volume 1", linked to rappers Honey Singh and Badshah, from all digital platforms.
The court held that the lyrics were "grossly vulgar, obscene and derogatory towards women," stressing that such content cannot be permitted in a civilised society.
Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav observed that the song reflected a blatant disregard for decency and could not claim protection under artistic freedom or free speech. The court noted that even its title was too objectionable to be reproduced in a judicial order, underlining the severity of the material.
The order directs the singers, producers, and any rights holders to remove all versions, remixes, and URLs hosting the track from YouTube, Spotify, and other platforms. The matter will be heard again on May 7.
The petition was filed by Hindu Shakti Dal, which argued that the song demeaned women and had been performed publicly by Honey Singh. After listening to the lyrics in chambers, the court said its conscience was "shaken to the core."
The ruling comes amid growing concerns over rap music glorifying alcohol, drugs, and gun culture.
