Thiruvananthapuram: An Emirates flight from Thiruvananthapuram to Dubai was forced to turn back midway on Monday after Dubai International Airport temporarily suspended operations following a drone-related incident.
The aircraft landed safely back at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport.
Authorities said a drone struck a fuel tank near the airport, sparking a fire that was quickly contained by Dubai Civil Defence teams. No injuries were reported, but flights were halted as a precaution.
"Dubai Civil Aviation Authority announces the temporary suspension of flights at Dubai International Airport to ensure the safety of all passengers and staff," the Dubai Media Office said in a statement on X.
Passengers were advised to contact airlines for updates as operations remain under review.
The incident comes amid heightened regional tensions following the US-Israeli conflict with Iran. Gulf states have faced waves of missile and drone attacks since February 28, with the UAE reporting interception of more than 1,500 drones so far, according to Xinhua news agency.
