A Rajya Sabha MP and three others were allegedly duped of money on the promise of being provided land plots, leading to the arrest of the son of a former Odisha minister by Commissionerate Police in Bhubaneswar.
Police on Friday arrested Ajit Sahu, son of former Odisha Transport Minister Nrusingha Charan Sahu, from his residence in the Nayapalli area of the city.
According to reports, Ajit Sahu had allegedly collected money from four individuals, including Rajya Sabha MP Sujeet Kumar, assuring them that he would arrange plots for them. However, the promised plots were never provided.
Kumar had lodged a complaint against Sahu with the Tughlak Road Police Station in New Delhi in 2024. Separately, the three other alleged victims filed complaints with Commissionerate Police in Bhubaneswar.
Reports said the Patiala House Court in New Delhi had issued an arrest warrant against Sahu after he repeatedly failed to appear before the court despite being served summons.
Nrusingha Charan Sahu, a senior Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader, was elected to the Odisha Assembly from Parjanga constituency in Dhenkanal district three times between 2009 and 2019. He also served as Odisha’s Transport Minister during the previous BJD government.
