Bhubaneswar: A daring burglary in Bhubaneswar's Laxmisagar area has left residents stunned, after unidentified miscreants allegedly decamped with gold ornaments worth nearly Rs 2 crore, luxury watches, diamond jewellery and Rs 5 lakh in cash from the home of builder Pritam Jena.
The theft occurred late Friday night while Jena and his family were away. Police said the burglars broke into the residence, ransacked the interiors and escaped with valuables. The crime came to light when the family returned and discovered the loot.
According to Jena’s wife’s statement to the police, it was a pre-planned act as the miscreants even disabled a robotic security device before fleeing. She said the stolen items included ornaments, diamond jewellery, expensive watches, bags and cash.
On being alerted, Laxmisagar Police rushed to the spot and launched an investigation. A forensic team is expected to examine the crime scene, while CCTV footage from the neighbourhood is being scrutinised to track the culprits.
Investigators suspect the burglars may have had prior knowledge of the family's absence, though all angles are being explored. A case has been registered, and police say efforts are underway to trace those involved in the high-value burglary case.
