Heavy Rain to Return to Odisha From Tomorrow, IMD Issues Yellow Warning Till Aug 8

Odisha is set for another spell of heavy rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds starting Sunday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow warning for multiple districts from August 2 to 8.

According to an IMD bulletin on Saturday, heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are likely across different parts of the state over the next seven days. “Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind with speed reaching 30-40 kmph is likely to occur” in several districts during the period, the weather agency said.

Heavy rainfall is expected in Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur, Rayagada and Koraput on August 2-3. On August 3-4, Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj are likely to receive heavy rain.

The spell is expected to intensify again on August 4-5, with heavy rain forecast for Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Rayagada and Gajapati. On August 5-6, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput and Gajapati are likely to receive heavy rainfall.

Heavy rain is also forecast over Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur, Rayagada and Koraput on August 6-7, while Nabarangpur, Rayagada and Koraput are expected to continue receiving heavy showers on August 7-8.

The IMD has advised people to stay updated with weather forecasts, avoid open areas during thunderstorms and exercise caution as lightning and gusty winds may accompany the rain.
