Nayagarh: A shocking allegation has rocked Nayagarh district, where a woman has accused Sujit Kumar Das, Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Sarankul Police Station, of sexually harassing her under the guise of providing justice.
The complainant, who says her family has long endured social boycott and harassment in their village, approached the Nayagarh Superintendent of Police on Wednesday with a written complaint.
She alleged that despite assurances of help, the IIC repeatedly exploited her vulnerability. According to her statement, Das not only broke her mobile phone to erase evidence but also forcibly took her to a hotel in Nayagarh town and a rented house in Baunsia, where she was subjected to sexual harassment.
The woman further claimed the IIC made late-night video calls and pressured her into silence. She demanded a thorough probe, including examination of his mobile phone and CCTV footage from the police station.
Taking the allegations seriously, the SP ordered an inquiry led by the Additional SP. A case has been registered, and Das has been transferred to the district headquarters pending investigation. Vigilance into the matter continues, with authorities stressing that accountability within the police force is paramount.
