A family dispute in Karnataka's Koppal district turned deadly after an 18-year-old allegedly stabbed his parents and sister, leaving his father and sister dead while his mother remains in critical condition.
Cops are investigating whether the accused’s reported online gaming addiction played a role in the attack.
The accused, identified as Sai Naidu, allegedly attacked his father Yankanna Naidu (48), mother Soujanya and sister Pragati (20) with a knife before reportedly attempting to take his own life.
According to police, Pragati died at the scene, while the injured family members were rushed to hospital. Yankanna Naidu later succumbed to his injuries during treatment at Ballari Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) Hospital.
Soujanya is undergoing treatment at BIMS and remains in critical condition.
Sai Naidu also sustained serious injuries after allegedly stabbing himself and is currently receiving treatment at the same hospital. Police officials from Koppal district have visited the hospital and begun questioning him as part of the investigation.
Gangavathi police inspected the crime scene and launched a probe into the circumstances leading to the attack. Preliminary findings indicate that the teenager may have been addicted to online gaming.
However, cops have not yet established whether the alleged addiction directly triggered the violence.
