Bhubaneswar: In a significant step toward bolstering Odisha's textile and apparel sector, the State Cabinet on Monday approved the construction of a Women Workers' Hostel at Kalibeti Industrial Area in Khordha district.

The project, to be executed by the Industrial Development Corporation of Odisha (IDCO), has been sanctioned at a cost of Rs 210.36 crore and is slated for completion within 24 months.

Officials said the hostel will provide safe and secure accommodation for nearly 4,000 women workers, addressing a critical need in an industry where women form 65-70% of the global workforce. The facility will also include social and community infrastructure aimed at enhancing safety, convenience, and quality of life.

Kalibeti Industrial Estate has already attracted major investments from textile giants like MAS Holdings, EPIC, and Indian Stitches, expected to generate over 20,000 jobs in the coming years.

The government believes the hostel will not only improve workforce productivity by reducing travel time but also minimize employee turnover by ensuring a secure living environment.

Funded under the Scheme for Apparel and Technical Textiles in Odisha (SASCI), the initiative is being hailed as a landmark move in Odisha's bid to position itself as a leading hub for textile and apparel manufacturing in India.
