Jajpur: A simmering property feud in Jajpur district erupted into violence on Wednesday, leaving a 50-year-old widow dead and her neighbour behind bars.
The shocking incident unfolded at Saroi village under Dharmasala police station limits, where Nandini Dehury was allegedly attacked inside her home by neighbour Hari Dehury, 30.
Police said the families had been locked in a long-standing dispute over a piece of homestead land. Around 11 am, Hari reportedly stormed into Nandini's house, sparking a heated argument that escalated into a brutal assault. Armed with a crowbar, he allegedly struck the woman, inflicting fatal injuries.
Nandini's son lodged a complaint, following which police rushed to the scene, arrested the accused, and sent the body for post-mortem examination. Police confirmed that preliminary findings point to the property dispute as the trigger for the crime.
