Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Legislative Assembly has taken serious note of a breach of privilege complaint filed by Narla MLA Manorama Mohanty against the Kesinga SDPO and his staff, directing the Home Department to submit a detailed report within 15 days.
The Speaker issued the directive after examining Mohanty's notice, which alleged that police personnel forcibly entered her official residence at the MLA Colony in Bhubaneswar during the Assembly session. According to the complaint, the incident occurred on March 29, 2026, when officers allegedly broke open the main gate, doors and windows of her quarter.
Mohanty claimed she was away at the time, but her daughter and a domestic worker inside the house were misbehaved with. The notice further alleged that male police personnel acted inappropriately toward the domestic help while she was changing clothes, causing severe distress.
Assembly Secretary Satyabrata Rout, in an urgent communication, asked the Home Department to provide a factual report for further consideration. The Secretariat stressed "zero tolerance" in handling the matter, which has raised questions about police conduct and legislative privilege.
