Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has rolled out a comprehensive relief package for families devastated by the recent floods, promising compensation of up to Rs 1.20 lakh for households whose homes were completely destroyed.

Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari made the announcement on Monday, assuring swift rehabilitation measures.

Officials from the Revenue and Agriculture departments have begun detailed assessments in areas where floodwaters have receded. As per the package, families with fully damaged huts will receive Rs 8,000, while those with partially damaged kutcha houses will get Rs 4,000. Farmers hit by crop losses will be compensated at Rs 8,500 per hectare.

The floods have wreaked havoc across 22 districts, affecting 85 blocks and 1,458 villages, with nearly 8.64 lakh people impacted. Pujari said the government is prioritizing rapid assessment to ensure timely delivery of relief and rehabilitation support.

The announcement comes as Odisha grapples with widespread destruction, and the relief package is expected to provide much-needed assistance to families struggling to rebuild their lives.
